All information you need to travel from Saigon to Phnompenh or Phnompenh to Saigon by boat
It is so easy to travel from Phnompenh to Saigon or vice versa. Vietnam airline offers the direct flights everyday from Phnompenh to Saigon or Saigon to Phnompenh that takes only 40 minutes. But almost travelers are interested in traveling by boat through the Mekong River . The trip cost is reasonable and much cheaper than flight.Travelers often join the Mekong delta tour from Saigon to My Tho – Ben Tre – Can tho and end the tour in the part of Vietnam in Chau doc, a small town 250 km far from Saigon and has border with Cambodia. Can tho lies between Chaudoc and Saigon, famous with Cairang floating market – one of the most interesting activities in the Mekong delta area. Travelers often spend 1 night in Can tho and 1 night in Chau doc before taking speed boat to Phnompenh.
How to travel from Phnompenh to Saigon or vice versa by boatThere are some boat companies who offer the daily speed- boat from Chau doc / Vietnam to Phnompenh and vice versa. The speed boat leaves Chau doc at around 7:30 AM and arrive in Sisowath port in Phnompenh at noon time, taking around 5 hours. Only afternoon speed boat runs from Phnompenh to Chau doc. It leaves Phnompenh at around 12:00 PM and arrive in Chau doc around 5:00 PM.
The most popular one is Hang Chau speed boat. We post here some pictures of Hang Chau speed boat that runs from Phnompenh to Chau doc or vice versa. Traveler can also take the Tu Trang speed boat or Victoria speed boat that is only provided for Victoria Chau doc hotel’s in- house guests. There is also one kind of speed boat offered by one travel agent there but we strongly suggest Hang Chau speed boat. The boat leaves Chau doc at 7:30 AM, arrive in Phnompenh pier at around 12:30 PM and only afternoon speed boat runs from Phnompenh to Chau doc. It leaves Phnompenh at around 12:00 PM and arrive in Chau doc around 5:00 PM.They have some boats that can carry from 18 passengers to 30 passengers with toilet on boat. The boats are clean and safe. Besides the inside seats, some have seats outside for enjoying the cool breezes along the river. Traveler can contact with us or buy the speed boat ticket at Chau Giang floating restaurant in Tran Hung Dao street in Chau doc at 24 USD/ ticket . Hang Chau speed boat also offers mineral water, cold towels and cake for passengers. The trip will end at Sisowath pier in Phnompenh. It is possible to say that Phnompenh is the River side city so traveler can take the taxi from pier to their hotel. It is very near and does not cost much. Right at the pier, there is a very beautiful restaurant named Bopha Phnom Penh restaurant . Traveler can enjoy the good meal there after the 5 hours boat trip at the Riverside restaurant. a/ Cambodia Visa at the border.Passengers can apply Cambodia Visa at the border . The immigration procedure is very simple and the English speaking guide (Hang chau speed boat staff ) will do it for all travelers. Each person just need prepare 20 USD by cash, 2 passport- sized photos and at least 6 month validity passport. The Hang chau speed boat staff ( also tour guide ) will give all travelers the form to fill out some information. Then give it all back to him. When the boat runs to the meeting point in Vietnam side, it will stop and the tour guide will do some formality with the customs there while all travelers just wait around 10 minutes. The tour guide finishes his work and the boat continues the trip. The boat runs around another 10 minutes from meeting point in Vietnam side to meeting point in Cambodia side and stop again to do the Cambodia immigration. Traveler do not need any thing, just wait around 15 minutes. When the tour guide finishes his work, they can entry Cambodia and the boat continues to Phnompenh. The Entrance point names Vinh Xuong/ Viet nam and Kaom Sammar/ Cambodia.b/ Vietnam visa at the borderBut Vietnam visa upon arrival is not available at the border for downstream cruise, from Phnompenh to Chaudoc. Passengers must have Vietnam visa in hand before departure. Travelers can get the Vietnam visa at Vietnam embassy in your country or at Vietnam Embassy in Phnompenh. It takes around 2 days , even 1 day in urgent case.
